Essential Oil 101 Class! (How To!)

Hello again . . . Hello . . .  oh, wait.  I'm not a singer, but I do like to sing the praises of My dōTERRA Essential Oils! And yes, for full disclosure, I am a:

What does that actually mean?? It means that I love using Essential Oils and, as a lifelong learner, I love sharing what I have learned with others!  Oh and there are links in this post, of which I have received no benefits for posting . . . I think I better look into that!

One of my goals for this year is to intentionally share oils with others every couple of months. I will be hosting these events at my parent's home and they will include some "Make & Takes".  This includes making rollerballs, sampling recipes that use oils, making cleaning products, personal products and whatever I come across.  I will be sharing each get-together on the blog to show how simple and easy it is!

My first class of the year was an Essential Oil 101 Class.  This class offered basic information about what Essential Oils are and how to use them.  It was a great class to start the year off with, especially for any first time oil users or those wanting to learn more about them. My dōTERRA  offers so many great tools for educating and sharing oils and one of them is the Class in a Box.  The Class in a Box included a DVD that I use to talk and walk anyone through some basic EO information, order forms, samples and so much more!

My prep was fairly simple:  I created an Event on FB, emailed those I know already who have shown interesting in EO's, gathered recipes for some yummy snacks (who doesn't like to snack while you learn) and gathered my supplies.  For this Make & Take, we were going to be making some rollerballs.  Rollerballs are a great tool for applying EO's, mixing them for specific needs and for getting the most out of your EO's.  I purchased rollerballs from: aromatools.com, in sizes 5ml (1/6 oz.) and 10ml (1/3oz).  You can even select different colors or styles!  After making sure I had enough rollerballs (the 5ml size are the most popular), I needed some Fractionated Coconut Oil, Essential Oils and recipes!  Recipes for EO rollerballs can be found almost anywhere, from EO books to Pinterest, can be as simple as diluting a single oil or combining multiple oils for a specific purpose. I am still working on pre-printed labels that can stick on the rollerballs, so for this class, I had Recipe Cards printed up with recipes, some blank recipe cards to create your own and blank labels for the rollerballs.  It is very important to label your EO rollerballs!  It's really not a big deal if you use the "wrong"one, but it is a big deal if you really like one and you can't remember what you put in it!

For the day of the class, I made some yummy snacks (Citrus Fruit Dip-using dōTERRA Lime EO, Peppermint Brownies, and Hummus with dōTERRA Lemon EO), printed off my recipe cards and cut them up, gathered all my supplies and headed back to my parents.  Ok, it wasn't quite that easy, as I forgot the brownies and some items in my printer and had to come back home to get them!  Thankfully, they live less than a 1/4 of a mile from me :)

When the guests arrived, I had them sign-in (name, address, email) and encouraged them to try some snacks and put their name, with any questions they might have, in a jar for a give-away drawing.  Once everyone arrived and had settled in, I did a quick welcome and introduction and then we began.  I decided to show only one segment from the dōTERRA  DVD called "What are Essential Oils".  After showing the video, I started pulling out the questions and there were some great ones!  "Does dōTERRA have a Rose Oil?", "How is dōTERRA different from other oil companies?', "What are the no-no's of using essential oils?", and my favorite "What can I use essential oils for?"!  Once the questions were answered, I explained how the rollerball making would work and we all went at it!  There was a lot of chatter, questions and laughter.  It was great to have another Wellness Advocate on hand to answer questions and lend a hand in looking up oil uses.

Overall, the night was a success!  Most importantly, it was such fun to see everyone dive right in and get excited about using EO's! So, what should my next class be -cleaning products for the home or skin care products!  What would interest you?  And if you're very interested, follow me on Facebook or comment below for more information!
